correctly.
CW: Students will take a 30– question quiz covering the material we have discussed so far. First 18 vocabulary words, literary terms, and bell work terms.
CW: Students will read the first reading assignment. They will write a description of the protagonists, setting, and theme.
9/3/08: BW: Copy definition of character and theme. Write one sentence using each word
correctly.
CW: Students will identify the theme and characterize the
protagonists/antagonists in the story Everyday Use- pg. 70 Literature book.
They will also make inferences, summarize, synthesize and make connections to
the text. They will achieve this by answering questions 1, 2, 3, 4, 8, 9, 10 on page
78.
HW DUE*
9/4/08: BW: Copy definition of Verbal Irony, Dramatic Irony, and Situational Irony.
Correctly identify an example of each.
CW: Students will look through magazines to identify examples of each type of
irony. They will share their work with the class.
9/5/08: BW: Copy vocabulary definitions (Next 9 words).
CW: Students will create vocabulary flash cards to study for their quiz Monday.
They will quiz each other to reinforce these concepts.

A quiz covering the first 18 vocabulary words, literary terms, bell work terms and grammar rules will be given Tuesday, September 1. We will review in class Friday, August 29. Students will make flashcards again that they will bring home to study.

Summer Reading Test
Date Due: Wednesday, 8/13/08
A test covering the required summer reading novel, A Lesson Before Dying by Earnest Gaines will be given Wednesday, August 13. The test will be multiple choice, and will cover thematic elements of the novel.
